The Yoga Sutra

A Technical Map of Cognition and Consciousness.

The Yoga Sutra reorganizes cognition so that the mind acquires capacities normally dormant. The four chapters of the text describe different aspects of this transformation. The ideas collected here explore those mechanisms.

The Yoga Sutra is often interpreted as a sequence of practices leading toward samadhi. The text itself suggests something different.

The eight limbs describe conditions that emerge together as the mind stabilizes in samadhi. They are not steps in a ladder but expressions of a single reorganization of attention and perception.

Several terms commonly translated as concentration or meditation carry more precise meanings in the sutras themselves. These ideas are examined throughout the library.
